Nasc, Migrant and Refugee Rights Centre is recruiting a project
officer to work on our Connect Children and Young Person?s project.
The role offers an opportunity to use your skills to make a difference

ABOUT NASC:
Nasc, the Migrant and Refugee Rights Centre is a human rights
organisation based in Cork City. For over twenty years, Nasc has been
an advocate for the rights of migrants, refugees and international
protection applicants.
The Connect Project is Nasc?s project working with children and
young people from a refugee or migrant background who are most at risk
of social disadvantage.
ROLE ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The main activities of the role include:
* Providing information, support and advocacy for young people with
their immigration and asylum needs and referring to Nasc?s Advocacy
Team where appropriate.
* Providing information and practical support on access to
education, training, income support and accommodation.
* Providing orientation and links to community integration,
wellbeing and mental health supports.
* Working collaboratively with external agencies to support the
young person, i.e. social work, community, education and healthcare
professionals
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Working with each young person to develop an assessment and
individual support plan;
* Mentoring and supporting the overall wellbeing and social
integration of the young person.
* Providing information, advocacy and practical support for the
young person.
* Liaising with public services, community, social work and
healthcare professional to ensure a high standard of service provision
* Keeping accurate and up to date records; ensure that case notes
are kept securely and maintained up to date.
* Training and building the capacity of key support professionals
* Liaising regularly with the lead social worker and Nasc management
to ensure accurate use of budgets and project delivery in line with
funding requirements.
* Strictly adhering to Nasc?s Child Protection policy and
procedures and Nasc?s Data Protection policy and procedures.
* Engaging in supervision, regular CPD and career development
opportunities.
* Representing Nasc at meetings where required to do so.
* Other tasks as may be reasonably required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The following are the knowledge, experience, skills relevant for the
position:
* Social Care, Social work, Community Work or Youth Work
qualification or equivalent (FETAC Level 8) is essential.
* Permission to work in Ireland is essential.
* Previous experience working in a similar position is desirable.
* Ability to communicate cross-culturally to speakers of English as
a second language.
* Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
* Excellent organizational and administrative skills including
meticulous record keeping, strong time management skills and strong
computer literacy.
* Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equality, social
justice and human rights.
* Understanding and sensitivity towards international protection
applicants, refugee and migrant issues.
* Competence in a second language (for example ? Arabic or French)
would be an advantage for this role.
* Driving licence and access to transport is an advantage.
* Experience in managing budgets is an advantage.

PLEASE NOTE:
* Child Protection training is an essential part of this role. Other
training will also be offered as part of your continuing professional
development.
* Maintaining boundaries and confidentiality is an essential
function of this role. In practice this means for example, maintaining
appointment times, taking calls and corresponding with clients within
working time only, maintaining emotional boundaries and practicing
self-care, referring to other services where deemed necessary i.e.
counselling and mental health supports.
* Ongoing communication with the staff team and supervision with the
Lead Social Worker is an integral part of the role
* It is very important to maintain accurate and up to date records
of work for review by management.
